It seems that every year the holidays are approaching quicker. They come and go so fast that we feel guilty for not having done more to get into the spirit. We didn’t have time to watch the movies, bake cookies, fully decorate the house, and we are last-minute Christmas gift shopping. We want you to enjoy this season and get out of the house with friends and family and just have some fun. Here are some activities and events around Raleigh that you will want to add to your calendars this season. Enjoy the season and don’t let it slip by you without giving at least one (or all) of these a try.
1. Attend A Carolina Hurricanes Game
If you are a major sports fan then you know who the Carolina Hurricanes are but if not, they are a professional ice hockey team based out of Raleigh, North Carolina. This is a winter sport so you can catch some home games this December at the PNC Arena. Even if you have never been to a professional sporting event, this is one we really think anyone would enjoy. The cold arena and hype atmosphere will surely help you get into the spirit of the holidays too. Check out their website for info on scheduling and tickets.
2. Attend Santa’s Wonderland
Bass Pro Shops hold a meet and greet with Santa during the holidays. This is a great activity to do with kids. Let’s be honest too that even adults can get away with taking a photo with Santa. While there you can get some Christmas shopping done around the store or maybe treat yourself to something special for Christmas. There are usually some great deals going on with different products around the shops so check online or just wait to be surprised in person. We hope you made it on Santa’s nice list this year.
3. Grab Some Baked Goods From A Local Shop
Baking your own cookies and desserts is always a fun activity to do when getting in the Christmas spirit. If you live in a small space though or aren’t up for learning to bake, then we recommend going and trying out some local bakeries in the city. Just a couple that comes to mind is Boulted Bread, Mama Bird’s Cookies + Cream, and Groovy Duck Bakery. There are many more you can find online too. You can grab some treats for a gathering with friends, or stop and have something for yourself, and maybe grab a coffee-to-go while doing some Christmas shopping. Sugar seems to always get us in the mood for Christmas. Satisfying that sweet tooth makes those stressful days from work a little less hectic.
4. Ice Skating
Some families make it a yearly tradition to ride around and look at Christmas lights. We recommend that you grab a hot chocolate, fill the car up with friends and family, and go drive around the different city neighborhoods. You can even hold a voting competition among your group on who has the best lights for the holidays. Maybe leave that house a note and small gift in their mailbox for winning your small competition. Not only is your night brightened but now you have made their day too when they check their mail.
5. Go Christmas Light Exploring
You are either good or not so good at ice skating but either way, this is a fun outing to do with friends during the holidays. Bundle up in your nice holiday sweater and scarf and rent some skates at Raleigh Ice Plex. It is a $10 admission during the holidays and an extra $3 for skates. This is a great alternative to the movies on a Friday Night.
6. Trolley Pub Raleigh
