It can be hard to feel excited about the holidays when you are in the hectic lifestyle of a city. With people always rushing around you, it can make the days seem like a blur. You said it would be different this year and next thing you know it’s the new year. We want to help you plan out some things to do this season to make sure you slow down and enjoy the holidays. We have come up with 6 activities you can do in the Charlotte area that will make you excited for Christmas and not dreading the chaos that comes with it, such as the franticness of last-minute gift shopping. We challenge you to try as many of these as possible and watch your holiday spirit meter rise.
The Nascar Hall of Fame Plaza is turned into an ice-skating rink during the holidays. They freeze over 10,000 gallons of water to set this up every year. They open for the season mid-November so you have plenty of opportunities to gather some friends and go play on ice. Bring your cameras because someone is bound to wipe out and it is somehow always funnier when it’s on slick ice.
The Winterfest debuts on November 24th so get your tickets now. The park comes to life as they transform everything into a winter wonderland. There is no way you can go here and not feel festive. Plus, you can enjoy the rides, each some great food, and smile all day with great company. There are over 5 million lights and a 70-foot tree so be sure to take lots of photos and share online. You might inspire others to go raise their joy meters here this season too.
This begins mid-November and continues through the end of the year. This attraction is 3.5 miles of lights on display at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. It is a drive through activity that has a drive-in theatre with holiday films throughout the season. The fee is per car so be sure to fill every seat because the more the merrier to enjoy this experience.
Supporting small businesses is always important but especially during the holidays. You should try getting gifts for others from local shops. Open daily the Charlotte Christmas Village is full of gift vendors, so you don’t have to do much traveling around trying to find shops to support. They are all in this one location. There is no admission to just browse too. There are even live performances throughout the season so you can have some great tunes and entertainment while not being as stressed with gift shopping this year.
We all know the nutcracker from childhood stories and memories. Maybe you have been to a performance before, but this is one that never gets old and is a great way to get excited about Christmas being here. It is one of the most widely performed ballets in the world and from December 6-23, you can attend the show at Belk theatre in Charlotte. Check out their website for further information on tickets.
